Here's my recipe for a delicious homemade tomato sauce that's perfect for pizza or other pasta dishes: #tomatosauce

Traditional Tomato Sauce
Ingredients:
- 28 oz can of whole peeled tomatoes or about 6 natural ones
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Drain the canned tomatoes and reserve the juice. Crush the tomatoes by hand or pulse them a few times in a food processor until they are slightly chunky.

2. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and sauté for 1-2 minutes, or until the garlic is fragrant and lightly golden.

3. Add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, and basil to the saucepan and stir to combine. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

4. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, or until it has thickened and the flavors have melded together.

5. Season the sauce with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. If the sauce is too thick, you can add some of the reserved tomato juice to thin it out to your desired consistency.

6. Let the sauce cool slightly before using it on pizza or pasta.

This tomato sauce is versatile and can be used in a variety of dishes. It's easy to make and can be customized to suit your taste preferences. Feel free to add other herbs or spices, such as fennel seeds or thyme, to give the sauce your own personal touch.

Use this sauce in my award winning pepperoni pizza recipe here.

Enjoy!
